Recipients of 2006 Distinguished Scholar Award Announced
“The University Research Council would like to congratulate the finalists and the recipients for their outstanding work,” says Dr. Kimberly Peer, Subcommittee on Distinguished Scholar Award co-chair. “Their contributions to Kent State University and academe overall is quite an accomplishment.” The three recipients represent a variety of disciplines and were among six Distinguished Scholar Award finalists. Bos was recognized for his research on electro-optical effects for active matrix liquid crystal displays and electro-optical effects for electronic paper and optical devices; Flannery was honored for his multidisciplinary research, which focuses on applied and community-based themes; and Hu received accolades for his research on international business, marketing and artificial neural networks. Finalists Dr. Satyendra Kumar, professor in the Department of Physics, Dr. Kenneth Laali, professor of chemistry, and Dr. Phillip Rumrill, professor of rehabilitation counseling in the Department of Educational Foundations and Special Services, were also congratulated for their outstanding academic achievements. The Distinguished Scholar Awards have been an annual tradition at Kent State since 1997, and 30 faculty members, including those who received the award this year, have earned this distinction. The award committee, which is associated with the University Research Council, oversees the process. University Research Council Chair R. Scott Olds, H.S.D., and Subcommittee on Distinguished Scholar Award co-chairs, Dr. James Tyner and Peer, hosted the awards ceremony.
