Kent State Names New Dean for College of Nursing

Last month, Provost Paul L. Gaston announced the appointment of Dr. Laura Cox Dzurec as dean of Kent State’s College of Nursing. Dzurec comes to Kent State from the University of Connecticut, where she served as a professor and dean of the School of Nursing.

OJIN PURCHASED BY AMERICAN NURSES ASSOCIATION

The American Nurses Association (ANA) recently announced its purchase of OJIN: The Online Journal of Issues in Nursing from Kent State’s College of Nursing. OJIN is hosted and exclusively posted on the association’s Web site.

OJIN, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, is published three times yearly. It presents timely information required by nurses and other health care professionals to provide current and informed patient care, to be socially responsive health care professionals, and to meet professional development needs.

"The American Nurses Association recognizes the superb quality of OJIN, and is committed to maintaining that same level of excellence," says ANA President Rebecca M. Patton, MSN, R.N., CNOR.

The American Nurses Association will continue to furnish digital publishing services, technical support, and Web hosting. It also maintains and delivers an electronic newsletter for OJIN readers to announce postings of new journal articles, columns, keynotes, and continuing education offerings.

"Dr. Dzurec is an accomplished academic administrator, a dedicated nursing educator, and a well-published scholar. Kent State is fortunate to secure someone with her experience and prominence," Gaston says.

Prior to her appointment at the University of Connecticut, Dzurec was associate dean and associate professor of the School of Nursing at the Oregon Health Sciences University. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Dzurec has held academic and administrative posts at several universities including the University of Maine, The Ohio State University, Kent State University and Case Western Reserve University. She is also a member of numerous professional organizations and editorial boards.

"Not only is coming to Kent State at this time an opportunity to revive old friendships and acquaintances, but it also is a wonderful time in the life of the university and nursing," Dzurec says. "I look forward to the excitement and challenges that are part of leading a dynamic college."

Kent State’s College of Nursing is one of the largest colleges of nursing in the state of Ohio. The college, established in 1967, provides comprehensive programs of study on the Kent State’s eight campuses, including entry-level associate and baccalaureate nursing degree programs, licensed practical nurse and registered nurse completion programs, a Master of Science in Nursing, post-graduate certificate programs, and a doctorate in nursing program.

The Center for Nursing Research serves as a catalyst for research productivity and grants, and OJIN: The Online Journal of Issues in Nursing is a national model for nursing research publications.
