The Kent for Kids program has been serving young people for more than 30 years.

The Kent for Kids program has been serving young people for more than 30 years.

For more than 30 years, the Kent for Kids program has provided enrichment activities for kindergartners through eighth-graders. Participants have fun taking part in a wide selection of hands-on activities. They can attend up to four classes a day in topic areas such as fine and performing arts, crafts, sports and games, technology and science. The program also features supervised before and after activities so that working parents can enroll their children for the entire day. Two-week sessions run from June 9 through Aug. 1. Class schedules and registration information will be available soon online.

Summer Chamber Studies is a program for collaborative piano, strings, voice and percussion students ages 10 to 18. This year’s program takes place from June 20 to 29. Students of all skill levels study with outstanding teachers and fellow student musicians at Kent State’s Hugh A. Glauser School of Music. Activities teach individual and group performance techniques that challenge each student to achieve his or her highest level of musicianship. Students attend concerts and participate in performance activities, private lessons, technique classes, small chamber ensembles, master classes and theory classes taught by the world-class La Catrina Quartet. For details or to apply, call 330-672-4741, visit the Web site or e-mail summerchamberstudies@kent.edu.

The Piano Institute, scheduled from July 20 to 30, is a residential program for intermediate and advanced piano students entering grades seven through 12. Students study with Kent State piano faculty Drs. Donna Lee and Jerry Wong, attending individual lessons, workshops and master classes. There also are recreational activities, including Cleveland Orchestra and Kent/Blossom Music concerts. A performance at Severance Hall is the grand finale. Information and applications are available online.

Programs are designed to engage young people in the community with the many resources that Kent State has to offer. All programs take place on the Kent Campus. For more information, call 330-672-3100 or visit the College of Continuing Studies Web site.
