Marantz Collection Dedicated
The Marantz Collection is a unique compilation of more than 21,000 children’s picture books, many first editions, chronicling the rich artistic and literary tradition of modern storytelling for young people over the past half century. Cataloged by artist or illustrator rather than by author, this collection and cataloging style reflect the view that picture books can be studied and valued as art objects as well as literary works.
The School of Library and Information Science received a $249,000 gift from the Reinberger Foundation of Cleveland to help fund the renovation of an 1,800-square-foot space in the library to house the collection. This section of the Reinberger Children’s Library Center will receive its official dedication on Monday, Dec. 15, through a special event featuring a keynote speech by internationally acclaimed children’s author and illustrator David Macaulay, recipient of a MacArthur Foundation "Genius Grant."
