| School of Music Vocal Students Land Parts With OperaCleveland
An opera rehearsal last year
Soprano Susan Fletcher of Bay Village and tenor Kyle Berkley of Columbia Station are both students of Dr. Jane Dressler. Both students have sung in past productions, including Hansel und Gretel and Don Giovanni. Two students from Timothy Culver's voice studio, tenors Michael Wiley of North Canton and Ryan Fitzgerald of Chagrin Falls, were also chosen for next season. Wiley has performed in OperaCleveland's productions of Falstaff, Don Giovanni, Il Barbiere di Siviglia and La Boheme. All four students will perform as choristers in OperaCleveland’s production of Lucia di Lammermoor in March. Culver has the role of Arturo in this production of Lucia with OperaCleveland. “OperaCleveland’s chorus auditions are competitive, with Kent State students competing against a range of area conservatory and state-school students,” says Dressler. “This year the chorus auditions involved a group of about 100 singers, which included more than 50 sopranos.”
All four students were recently featured performers in Kent State's Opera Scenes workshop program in November, under the direction of Kerry Glann and Fenlon Lamb. For more information about the School of Music, visit http://dept.kent.edu/music. |
