School of Art Galleries Open Two New Shows

Al Bright
The Kent State University School of Art Gallery opened Reunion on Jan. 19. The exhibit will be open until Feb. 19.

Curated by Richard Myers, the show features the work of Mary Ann Flynn-Fouse, Marlene Mancini Frost, John Opie, Susan Opie, Edward Pramuk, Harry Wheeler and Robert Wick.

This show is a reunion of seven artists of immense talent and influence. All studied at Kent State’s School of Art with the exception of Sue Opie. These artists and their work are a rich part of the School of Art’s history. Curator Richard Myers is an emeritus professor of art, who studied alongside the other artists during the mid-1950s.

The School of Art Gallery is located in the Art Building at 400 Janik Drive on the Kent Campus. Gallery hours are Tuesdays - Fridays, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information, call 330-672-7853.

The School of Art’s Downtown Gallery presents Confluence: Social Political Constructionist Points of View, which opened Jan. 22 and will close Feb. 27.

 The exhibit is curated by School of Art alumnus Al Bright and features the work of School of Art alumni Hilton Murray, in addition to Nelson Stevens and artist Louis Burroughs. The Downtown Gallery is located at 141 E. Main Street in Kent.

Curator Al Bright graduated from Youngstown State University in 1964 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in art education. He earned his master of art degree in painting from Kent State in 1965 and has been teaching at Youngstown State ever since.

The Downtown Gallery hours are Wednesdays - Fridays, noon - 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
