Walter Davis, associate professor in the School of Exercise, Leisure, and Sport, was the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished and Outstanding Teaching Award. Davis has been teaching at Kent State since 1981.

Wintery weather has arrived in Northeast Ohio. In my role as vice president for finance and administration, part of my responsibility includes final advice on campus cancellations and closures. The process of making a closing or delay decision begins at about 5 a.m., when the police chief, facilities leadership and I evaluate a number of factors related to the operation of an institution as large as ours. I encourage you, whenever the weather becomes questionable or when you are in doubt, to keep alert to communications coming from whatever channel you choose to remain apprised of weather-related closing information.

Smiles, handshakes and many surprised looks of happiness took place across the university recently, as the first recipients of the President’s Excellence Award were notified of their selection. Kent State President Lester A. Lefton dropped in on the workplaces of each of the 10 recipients to notify them of their honor and present them each with a check for $1,000.
