A year has passed since the Cleveland Rowing Foundation (CRF) reached out to Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative to assist in creating plans for a permanent home for the CRF on the Cuyahoga River. Last June, the collaborative, which is part of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, created a plan for the rowing foundation that included reconfiguration of existing buildings and extended green space to connect the space with surrounding recreation areas. “Rivergate Park” would cover a portion of land along the Cuyahoga River along the Columbus Road peninsula. Beginning in spring 2009, students at Kent State University at Stark were introduced to a theme-based student success program known as “Swift-Kick.” This motivation program is carried out through a variety of incentives, including an academic advising syllabus, student success course, service projects, dedicated website, poster campaigns, contests and more. It is unlikely that, 50 years from now, anyone won’t remember where the University Centennial Time Capsule was buried. That’s because more than 60 people joined in a ceremony Aug. 10 to see the capsule buried on Risman Plaza near the Kiva. Using a track hoe, Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton lowered the stainless steel box, which will be unsealed in 2060, six feet into a concrete vault in the ground. Read More
