Professor’s Passion Inspires Students
Associate Professor Susan Taft’s first memory of teaching was as a doctoral graduate student standing in front of a class of students, trying to keep her knees from knocking and her hands from shaking. Now, after enthusiastically teaching at Kent State University for more than two decades, Taft has earned one of the 2011 Distinguished Teaching Awards, which is awarded to full-time tenure track faculty who demonstrate extraordinary teaching.

Thomas P. Gysegem can be called a lot of things, including assistant prosecutor, judge and teacher. But there is one tag many people don’t know that they can hang on the longtime law man – actor. And it was his role as a part-time justice studies instructor at Kent State University at Trumbull that brought the Warren Municipal Court judge back to the stage this past summer after a self-imposed sentence away from acting.
