Posted Jan. 12, 2015Kent State University’s College of Business Administration and Department of Economics are ranked in the top 25 percent of research institutions in Ohio by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. In addition, Kent State’s Lockwood Reynolds, Ph.D., an associate professor of economics, is ranked as one of the top 100 economists worldwide whose first publication was five or fewer years ago.
“The Department of Economics at Kent State University is ranked among the top 25 percent of institutions in Ohio in a study which analyzes data on authors of scholarly work done by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis,” says Richard Kent, chair of Kent State’s Department of Economics in the College of Business Administration. “It is very gratifying to have the excellence and productivity of the economics department faculty recognized in this study.”
Kent State’s College of Business Administration is ranked eighth and its Department of Economics is tied at ninth with the Department of Economics at Miami University and the Department of Economics at Case Western Reserve University. Institution rankings are based on data about authors who have registered with the Research Papers in Economics (RePEc) Author Service, institutions listed on EDIRC, bibliographic data collected by RePEc, citation analysis performed by CitEc and popularity data compiled by LogEc.
“Kent State’s Economics Professor Lockwood Reynolds has been recognized as one of the top 100 economists in the world whose first publication is five or fewer years ago in a study done by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis,” Kent says. “Of these 100 young economists, there are only 48 who are affiliated with a school or organization in the United States. This is a very significant and prestigious, honor.”
Reynolds, ranked at 97, was first published in 2011. He is one of only two researchers from Ohio who are ranked from the pool of 8,075 young economists.
“It is always nice to be recognized for your research,” Reynolds says. “The ranking, which considers both quantity and quality of journal publications, is full of economists from around the world who do excellent research, so it is an honor to be included in that list of names.”
Reynolds received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2007. His teaching and research interests are in microeconomics, labor economics, public economics and the economics of education. His research focuses on access and completion in higher education with particular interest in the effects of college choice and the role of various household resources on educational decisions. His research also includes the local effects of government policies designed to encourage economic activity with a focus on the spatial or distributional implications of such policies.
Reynolds has been recognized with the College of Business Administration Tenured Teaching Excellence Award at Kent State.
