Posted July 23, 2012Kent State Stark now offers a new Bachelor of Arts in sociology degree, which makes it the 17th baccalaureate degree offered at the campus.
Kent State University at Stark now offers 17 baccalaureate degrees with the latest addition of the Bachelor of Arts in sociology degree.
Beginning in the Fall 2012 Semester, students who desire careers in social services and public administration, but also want the flexibility to study in one or more other fields, can earn a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Kent State Stark.
The new degree will give students broad training in sociology, as well as in other areas, opening career opportunities to a variety of fields. Adding to a core curriculum that focuses on social inequalities, social psychology and health and illness, the program also offers courses on a variety of topics, including deviant behavior, social movements, work, gender, same-sex partnerships, social problems and mental illness.
Sociology prepares students for a wide range of jobs in such sectors as health services, counseling, community programs, journalism, group and recreation work, sales and marketing, human resources, social services, the criminal justice system, public administration, government programs and social research. Students are provided with a strong liberal arts background in scientific and humanistic perspectives of social life. Their investigative skills in research design, statistics and data analysis will be developed, giving them an edge with prospective employers.
To meet the higher education needs of the region, Kent State Stark has evolved from granting only associate degrees to offering a continuously growing number of bachelor’s degrees. In addition to the 17 four-year degrees offered at Kent State Stark, students can choose coursework in any of Kent State University’s 256 bachelor’s degrees. The Professional Master of Business Administration and the Master of Education or Arts in Curriculum and Instruction are also available at Kent State Stark.
