Stark County High School Stadiums Receive Face-Lifts With Help From Local Company
Posted Sept. 20, 2010Football fans at five Stark County high schools might not have recognized the stadiums as they flocked to the season opener games at the end of last month. "Bleacher Jerseys" were recently installed on the stadiums of Canton South, Fairless, GlenOak, Jackson and Minerva high schools, as a sponsorship from Kent State University at Stark through GameDay Renovations, of Massillon, Ohio. The jerseys gave the five Stark County stadiums a dynamic face-lift and are promoting pride, energy and excitement within the high schools, districts and local communities.
The bleachers were unremarkable before the upgrade.
Canton South's bleacher jersey caught Anna Mayle's attention. "I think the red color looks gorgeous on the stadium. Canton South is the last school in the area to get renovated, and this makes us look so good," says Mayle. "My son, who will soon be attending the high school, said, 'that is so cool!' when he saw it."
"The program presents a great opportunity for the schools to enhance the look of their stadiums and to benefit from the sponsorship dollars they receive. As Stark County's public university, it provides great exposure and keeps us on the radar for high school students and their parents as they consider their higher education options. It's a win-win on all sides," comments Dr. Walter F. Wagor, dean of Kent State Stark.
GameDay Renovations partners with Miller Weldmaster in Navarre, Ohio, to manufacture this innovative product. Miller Weldmaster also played an important role in the cleaning up the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, building the equipment that produced the oil boom containment units that soaked up much of the 200,000 gallons of oil. In an effort to keep up with the demand for the units, employees worked 10- to 12-hour days, manufacturing the T-300 Extreme rotary welders that produce 225 feet of boom per hour.
