Posted April 22, 2013 | Emily VincentKent State University, the number one employer in Portage County and the number one donor to the United Way of Portage County, celebrated a successful 2013 United Way campaign, raising $152,771.92.
This year’s campaign, chaired by Kent State Vice President for University Relations Iris Harvey, focused on increasing the number of Kent State employees who contributed to United Way. At the campaign’s conclusion, participation increased by 112 donors over last year.
“We achieved a number of impressive milestones this year,” Harvey says. “Three of our 11 colleges, as well as five departments, divisions and offices on campus, achieved or surpassed the goal of tripling the number of employees who gave in 2013 versus their 2012 results.”
Participation results at or above goal were:
Colleges
- College of Business Administration – 127 percent
- College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology – 113 percent (100 percent employee participation)
- Honors College – 100 percent
Departments/Divisions/Offices
- Athletics – 108 percent
- Human Resources – 104 percent
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – 101 percent
- General Counsel – 100 percent (100 percent employee participation)
- Office of the President – 100 percent (100 percent employee participation)
- University Relations – 100 percent
To help celebrate the successful campaign, Harvey was joined by Kent State Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Todd Diacon and members of the Kent State University United Way Steering Committee to present a ceremonial check to Steve Kleiber, president and CEO of the United Way of Portage County, and Stephanie Rummel, director of development at the United Way of Portage County.

The ceremonial check is now displayed in the window of the United Way of Portage County’s office in Ravenna. The window also includes a thank-you message to Kent State for its contribution to this year’s campaign.
