Work at Kent State University’s Regional Academic Center in Twinsburg is nearing completion, and the center will be ready for the Fall 2012 Semester. Construction at the site began in May 2011.
“We can gladly report that the project is more than 70 percent complete,” says David Mohan, Ph.D., dean of Kent State University at Geauga, whose office oversees the Regional Academic Center. “The project remained on schedule because of a highly professional team committed to working together to be successful, and also due to the mild winter we experienced this year. The building currently meets the United States Green Building Coalition’s criteria for gold LEED certification, and we are looking forward to celebrating its grand opening this summer.”
The new building has been designed with points of excellence that include:
- Executive education suites that will serve graduate- and doctoral-level course work, and executive workforce training and development. The suites will be furnished with state-of-the-art technology and executive style furniture.
- Wet science labs that include chemical storage facilities and laboratory prep areas.
- A nursing education suite with an observation room and a nursing simulator control room for the associate degree in nursing (ADN) program. In addition to serving the nursing program, the center will also house the Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to ADN initiative.
- Computer labs, general classrooms, tutoring and study rooms, conference rooms, and administrative and faculty office suites and a patio that has the amenities to serve as an outdoor instructional area.
City of Twinsburg Mayor Kathy Procop noted the impact of the Kent State University Regional Academic Center in the region during her State of the City address. The center, according to Procop, is part of the Twinsburg Trifecta, which also includes University Hospital Twinsburg Health Center and the Cleveland Clinic’s Twinsburg Family Health and Surgery Center.
Currently, the Regional Academic Center serves about 900 students, but the new 44,000-square-foot, two-story building can serve up to 1,500 people.
