Posted April 15, 2013The Kent State University May 4 Visitors Center dedication will conclude with the opportunity to meet with the designers of the center on Sunday, May 5. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to noon at Cartwright Hall, located at 650 Hilltop Drive on the Kent Campus.
Designers of the May 4 Visitors Center – Cybelle Jones, principal and studio director, and Carl Rhodes, associate and senior exhibit designer, Gallagher & Associates – will discuss their work on the center at the event.
Jones has received multiple awards, including the AIA Award of Excellence for the International Spy Museum. Her list of notable projects also includes the Normandy American Cemetery Visitor Center at Omaha Beach in France, the Jamestown Settlement Museum in Virginia, and The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum. Among Rhodes’ projects as a Gallagher associate are the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in Austin, Texas, the Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center in Bethel, N.Y., and the B.B. King and Delta Interpretive Center in Indianola, Miss.
Jones and Rhodes will share their thoughts on their relationship with Kent State that was born more than six years ago as the university discovered a way to tell the story of the May 4 shootings. They will also talk about how the design helps realize the center’s vision and mission.
