Posted April 23, 2012Porthouse Theatre, Kent State’s outdoor summer theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, is now accepting applications for Porthouse Academy: High School Edition. The intensive summer program is for high school students entering their sophomore, junior or senior years who are interested in advanced study and preparation for university auditions.
The intensive program costs $825 (College of the Arts faculty and staff will receive a $100.00 discount) and includes:
- Eight hours of intensive study (9 a.m.- 6 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break), six days a week, for three weeks (June 19-July 8)
- Preparation and presentation of the Academy Showcase for a public audience
- Free admission to the Porthouse production the night of the showcase
- Advanced training in voice, dance, acting and audition preparation by professionals from around the world
- Interaction and networking with celebrated faculty and professionals from across the globe
Applicants must complete and mail an application form with a $100 deposit to secure a place in the 2012 Porthouse Theatre Academy. The full course tuition is due by May 29. Application forms can be found at www.porthousetheatre.com.

All students will participate in a cabaret-style performance, created from the songs, monologues and dance from academy classes. The showcase will be performed for Porthouse audiences on opening weekend of “The World Goes ‘Round” in July this summer.
All classes will be conducted at the Kent Campus, in the Roe Green Center for the School of Theatre and Dance. Summer housing for students will be located in Leebrick Hall, also on the Kent Campus. Leebrick Hall has standard single rooms at a weekly rate of $184. However, housing rates are subject to change for summer 2012.
