The Biggest Winner team competition is designed to
increase physical activity levels to help achieve weight
loss goals, and to develop healthy lifestyle habits.

Kent State employees are invited to form a team, join the fitness fun and compete to be the Biggest Winner in a new eight-week wellness program.

The Biggest Winner team competition will run March 12 through May 4 on the Kent Campus. Open to faulty and staff, the goal is for participants to increase physical activity levels to achieve and maintain weight loss goals, and develop healthy lifestyle habits that can be maintained after the program ends. The winning team will receive a $500 cash prize.

All you need to do to participate is assemble a team of five co-workers and register online (see link below) on or before
March 12. The cost is $20 per team member.

Rachael Decker, the university’s new wellness coordinator, says research has shown that people have a higher success rate with weight loss when they have a support system. “When people are working together toward a common goal, there is more social support, which is a motivator,” she says. “In addition, the competitive aspect to achieving healthy goals can only add to the success rate. Who doesn’t like some healthy competition?”

The $20 registration fee includes:

  • Access to facilities and equipment at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center (excludes Group Fitness classes)
  • Pre- and post-physical assessment done at University Health Services. This includes height, weight, body fat percentage, body mass index, blood glucose and blood lipid profile
  • Weekly weigh-ins
  • Weekly newsletters and prizes
  • Biweekly wellness sessions

Teams will earn points weekly for each visit to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, weigh-ins, the percentage of body weight lost and for attending the biweekly wellness sessions. There will be weekly team winners in addition to an overall winning team at the end of the eight weeks. Each member of the overall winning team will receive $100.
