Posted April 30, 2012Alvin Evans, associate vice president for Human Resources, has co-authored a third book on diversity titled Diverse Administrators in Peril (Paradigm, 2012). He will be signing copies of the book on Tuesday, May 8, from 2-4 p.m. at the University Bookstore in the Kent Student Center.
The book, co-authored with Edna Chun, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor for human resources at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, is the first in-depth examination of the work experiences of minority, female, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) administrators in higher education. Based on scores of interviews with diverse administrators, the book examines patterns of racism, sexism and heterosexism that persist in the highest administrative ranks, and provides concrete strategies and models for inclusive leadership practices.
Their next book, Strategic Human Resources in Higher Education (Jossey-Bass, 2012), will also be highlighted at this book-signing event, although it has not been released yet.
Evans and Chun have also published two previous award-winning publications: Bridging the Diversity Divide: Globalization and Reciprocal Empowerment in Higher Education (Jossey-Bass, 2009) and Are the Walls Really Down? Behavioral and Organizational Barriers to Faculty and Staff Diversity, (Jossey-Bass, 2007). Both books received the Kathryn G. Hansen Publication Award from the College and University Professional Association.
