Kent State Stark Music Department Announces Auditions for Concert Band

The Kent State University at Stark Music Department announces auditions for the Kent State Stark Concert Band. Three audition dates are scheduled to be held on:

  • Monday, Aug. 24, from 6-8 p.m. in 101 Fine Arts Building
  • Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 6-8 p.m. in 101 Fine Arts Building
  • Monday, Aug. 31, from 6-8 p.m. in 119 Fine Arts Building

Auditions will take place in the Fine Arts Building on the Kent State Stark Campus, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township.

The Kent State Stark Concert Band is a 30-year-old, award-winning ensemble, composed of Kent State Stark students, Kent State Stark Campus faculty, community musicians, students from neighboring universities and talented high school students.

Applicants with wind instruments are expected to perform major scales as per OMEA Solo and Ensemble Event Class B requirements for your instrument, from memory, and a chromatic scale starting on lowest-comfortable note and ascending to most comfortable upper note. A solo from Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Class A or B List OR 2 contrasting etudes (1 fast/ 1 slow) selected from a level-appropriate method book (ex. Rubank Advanced Studies book I or II, Rubank Selected Studies Book I or II or similar) that demonstrates both technical and musical ability. Sight-reading also is required during the audition.

Percussion applicants will be interviewed during their scheduled audition time. The performance audition will take place at the first rehearsal. The applicants must demonstrate their ability on various percussion instruments. At the conclusion of the rehearsal, applicants will be notified if they have been accepted into the Kent State Stark Concert Band.
