Kent State Student Receives Cochlear Americas Scholarship

Scholarships given by Cochlear Americas.
Kent State University art education major Andrea McGhee is the recipient of one of three Anders Tjellstrom Baha (Bone Anchored Hearing Aid) Scholarships given by Cochlear Americas.
Cochlear Americas, which has been offering implantable hearing solutions for 10 years, named McGhee one of the winners of an $8,000 award.
The Anders Tjellstrom Baha Scholarship, named after Anders Tjellstrom, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., and a research physician in the Department Otolaryngology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Sweden, is open to recipients of Baha implants.
Given that more than 140 applicants were reviewed, McGhee says she was honored to receive this award. The criteria for the recipients of the scholarship were based on academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to the Cochlear ideals of leadership and humanity.
“Winning this scholarship will allow me to further my education and turn my dreams into workable reality,” McGhee says.
McGhee, a third year student at Kent State, is involved in the university’s student chapter of the National Art Education Association (NAEA) and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
With this scholarship, which kicks in at the end of May, McGhee hopes to complete her bachelor’s degree and combine her passion for art, research and education in a related field of study.
After graduating, McGhee would like to continue her education by earning a Ph.D. in an art-related field and own her own studio where she can help enhance students’ art experiences.
“I firmly believe that if my ideas can inspire just one person, I know I can truly make a difference by paying it forward and encouraging children of all ages and abilities to discover their passions, unleash their inner artist, and find their niche in the art community,” McGhee says.
