Participate in Homecoming 2011: Event and Parade Registration Forms Available

Homecoming 2011 is scheduled for Oct. 15.

Get ready to celebrate! Homecoming 2011 is scheduled for Oct. 15. The festivities start at 9 a.m. at the hospitality tent at the Williamson Alumni Center and are followed by the parade down Main Street as well as the Homecoming game against the Miami RedHawks.

Other events and activities are currently being planned. Any university department or office organizing a Homecoming event should complete an event registration form before Aug. 26. Registered Homecoming events will be promoted on the Alumni Association’s website. 

Additionally, individuals interested in participating in the Homecoming parade can complete a parade registration form. This year’s parade theme is Rock Out the RedHawks.

Realignment of Community Service Personnel

Robert G. Frank, Kent State University provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, recently announced the realignment of Community Service, Volunteerism and Service Learning within the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement.
 
With this move, the Division of Academic Affairs welcomed Ann Gosky on July 1. Gosky is a 32-year veteran advocate for university participation and leadership in our local, national and international communities. This move from Enrollment Management and Student Affairs (EMSA) helps concentrate resources for constituents that focus on the importance of integrating experience in learning.  This will also logistically support the Experiential Learning Requirement (ELR) that will be instituted in fall 2012.

“The richness of a Kent State education has been heightened through the work of EMSA for generations as educational partners,” Frank says. “Ann’s development of student-centered programs will continue to provide our students and faculty with access, support and opportunities for connecting learning to our community. Please join me in welcoming Ann and wishing her the best in broadening and deepening the learning experience at Kent State.”

Gosky’s career at Kent State began in 1979 as an area coordinator in Residence Services and continued through several offices and programs. This realignment marks a new challenge, and new opportunities to help individuals and academic endeavors succeed, with the growing support of the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement.
 
The Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement is located in 203 Moulton Hall, the office number is 2-7876 and Gosky’s phone number remains unchanged at 2-8004.

New Look for the Student e-bill

The new e-bill design has been incorporated
into the Student Statement available via
FlashLine, under the “My Account” tab.

As many students may have noticed, student e-bills recently underwent a face lift. The Kent State University Bursar’s Office worked with student groups and staff from all eight campuses on the redesign of the e-bill with the goal of delivering a new bill that is easier to read and understand.

“We started working on re-designing of the e-bill last fall,” said Stina Olafsdottir, manager in the Bursar’s Office. “Several people were involved in the redesign project, including students. We wanted to make sure that we had student input because they are the ones using it. They really had some good ideas and gave us a different perspective on the e-bill layout.”

The new e-bill design has been incorporated into the Student Statement available via FlashLine, under the “My Account” tab.  Students and staff can see a sample of the new e-bill design on the Bursar’s Office home page. 
 
The fall e-bills were published on July 22 and anyone with class registration as of that date would have received an email that they have been issued an e-bill.  The due date is Aug. 12. The Bursar’s Office wants to remind students that any changes to a student’s schedule made after July 22 will not be reflected in the e-bill. Students should check their student account via FlashLine prior to the Aug. 12 due date for an up-to-date account balance. The Bursar’s Office sends email reminders to students that have an outstanding balance due on Aug. 12.
