Tailgate Event Kicks Off Sheryl Crow Concert at Kent State’s Dix Stadium
Get your two-for-one Centennial Campaign celebration concert tickets through Sept. 4
If three fantastic bands, terrific food and wine sampling sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday evening, then join in the fun at a special tailgate party going on before the Centennial Campaign Concert at Kent State University’s Dix Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 8. The concert features headliner Sheryl Crow, along with O.A.R. and Los Lonely Boys.
The party is free and open to the public as well as concert ticket holders, taking place on the south side of the stadium from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Enjoy food sampling and sales from local vendors, plus wine sampling from four local wineries: Sarah’s Vineyard Winery, Viking Vineyards, Maize Valley Winery and Barrel Run Winery.
There will be live musical performances, corn hole games, giveaways and music provided by 98.1 WKDD. Student and community organizations also will be represented.
The concert begins at 6 p.m. with Los Lonely Boys, followed by O.A.R. at 7:30 p.m. and Sheryl Crow at 9 p.m.
Because you are a valued member of our staff, faculty and/or alumni, we are offering a limited time two-for-one ticket promotion through Sept. 4. All Kent State University faculty, staff and alumni have the opportunity to buy advance tickets at half price. Chair back seats are sold out, but general admission and field access tickets are still available. That’s two general admission tickets for $35.

Submit Your Nominations for the Fourth Annual President’s Excellence Award
There’s still time to submit your nomination for the fourth annual President’s Excellence Award. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, Sept. 14.
Kent State President Lester A. Lefton established the award program in 2009 as a way to recognize staff members who demonstrate their daily commitment to carrying out the university’s Excellence Agenda.
The President’s Excellence Award recognizes exceptional performance during the previous fiscal year (July 1, 2011, through June 30, 2012). Full-time classified and unclassified employees at all campuses who have been employed by the university for a minimum of one year and are in good standing are eligible to be nominated. Past recipients are not eligible for a minimum of two years following their award, and faculty are not eligible.
The award recipients will be announced in December. Each recipient will receive a check for $1,000, after taxes. Details on the award criteria and the nomination form are available online at www.kent.edu/president/excellenceaward/index.cfm.

The parade is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20. This year’s theme is “Battle of the Decades.” Parade participants are encouraged to base their creative entries on any one of 10 decades in Kent State’s history.

Important Information Regarding Student Registration Into Classes
As we begin the new semester, the Office of the University Registrar asks for your assistance in making sure that all students are properly registered for their fall 2012 courses.
As per university policy, only officially registered students are permitted to attend courses. The link to official class rosters is found in FlashFAST, under the Faculty Advisor Toolbox within the Faculty and Advisor Tools tab. Students who are not officially registered within the appropriate time period will not receive a grade or earn credit for the course even if they attend the entire course and complete all required work.
The schedule adjustment period for students to add full-term courses ends Sunday, Sept. 9. Students are able to withdraw from any or all full-term courses through Sunday, Nov. 4. Deadlines for courses that meet outside the full part of term can be found on the Detailed Class Search. To access the Detailed Class Search, visit the Registrar's website at www.kent.edu/registrar, click the Schedule of Classes quick link, and select Fall 2012.
Instructors are asked to remind students that it is important to finalize and verify their registration within the proper timeframe. After the published deadlines, adjustments in registration will only be considered for review by the Office of the University Registrar in situations where students have fully complied with their responsibilities.
The deadline for submitting midterm grades (for freshmen only) and final grades can be found on the Registrar's website at www.kent.edu/registrar/calendars/index.cfm.
