PNC Bank Transition Continues

The start of the new academic year also means the final transition to PNC Bank as the provider of the university’s banking services. Effective Sept. 1, all campuses are transitioning to PNC.  That means all campus locations (with the exception of Ashtabula) will begin making deposits at the PNC branch closest to their respective campus.

The initial PNC deposit supplies (bags, tickets and endorsement stamps) are available at the Cashier window in the Schwartz Center for Kent Campus departments. Regional Campus business managers should have received their deposit supplies via campus mail last week. 

Please take a few minutes to review the PNC Bank FAQ for information on the deposit process. A couple of things to note include:

• The process for making deposits will change slightly;
• Deposit stamps and tickets will now be department specific; and
• Daily deposits may not be required, per university policy.

Ann Gosky Named Director of Kent State’s Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement

Education and Civic Engagement.

Kent State University has named Ann Gosky director of its Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement, following a national search. Gosky served previously as interim director.

Gosky brings to the position more than 37 years’ experience in higher education and a wealth of experience developing and implementing programs and initiatives in support of experiential education and civic engagement.

Prior to joining Kent State’s Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement, Gosky served as an assistant director for International Student Affairs (currently the Office of Global Education) and associate director of Campus Life (currently the Center for Student Involvement). She joined the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement in 2007 as a senior special assistant, launching many initiatives, such as Alternative Spring Break; the Bridge Program, a weekly program that provides meals for the homeless and transitional populations in Akron; and the Campus Kitchen at Kent State, which prepares more than 350 meals weekly for students and Portage and Summit county residents. In addition, Gosky has served in a leadership position with the university’s Undergraduate Research Symposium. 

“Ann is a well-respected Kent State professional and community member, giving a lot of her own time to help individuals and families who need additional support,” says Eboni Pringle, Ph.D., dean of Kent State’s University College. “She is a past board member of the King-Kennedy Center  and currently serves on the boards of Change Hunger Portage County and Springtime of Hope, to name a few, and has given countless volunteer hours on campus and in the community. I am very excited to have Ann serve as director of the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement and look forward to her continued success.”

Kent State Hosts Welcome Back Week Events, Aug. 31-Sept. 4

Welcome Back Week. During Welcome Back Week, Kent
State students, faculty and staff enjoy a week of Kent
State spirit to start the academic year.

The Kent Student Center, Center for Student Involvement and Intercollegiate Athletics cordially invite students, faculty and staff to enjoy a week of Kent State spirit to start the academic year, from Aug. 31-Sept. 4.

The events are meant to be fun, interactive and casual. Each day will feature some free food and giveaways. In addition, Kent State’s beloved mascot Flash, and some players, coaches and cheerleaders will be there.    

Students are encouraged to stop by between classes to meet new people and take part in the excitement of the first week of classes.  

All events will take place on Risman Plaza from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with the week culminating on Blue and Gold Friday.

Get some free ice cream on your way to class and stop in the photo booth for your first day of school pic!

Tuesday, Sept. 1 — T-shirts and Nacho Bar

Wednesday, Sept. 2 — Free Cookies and Candy Bar 
If you have never had a K cookie, do yourself a favor and stop by for one of these sweet treats or grab something from the candy bar.

Come have lunch on Risman Plaza! We have free hot dogs, chips, and best of all, T-shirts!

Friday, Sept. 4, and every Friday — Blue and Gold Friday

Show Your Spirit! Register Your Office for the Homecoming Decorating Contest

Twinsburg showed off its Homecoming spirit by decorating
with blue and gold pride! 

The Kent State University Alumni Association is inviting colleges and departments to show off their Homecoming spirit by decorating their offices with blue and gold pride!
 
In order to participate, competing offices must complete the online application by Friday, Sept. 18. Participating offices will be judged on creativity, use of physical space, visual appearance and appeal, and incorporation of staff.  Visit www.ksualumni.org/officecontest for the registration form and more information about the office decorating contest.
 
The winning office will be awarded the coveted traveling eagle trophy and will be surprised by the alumni association staff with delicious coffee and muffins!

Reminder About Deadline for Story Submissions to e-Inside

Submissions for the weekly newsletter are due by 5 p.m. on the Tuesday preceding the Monday publication that you want the story to appear in. For example, if you would like your story to appear in the Monday, Oct. 19, issue of e-Inside, please send your submission by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Submissions can be emailed to einside@kent.edu as Word documents. While not mandatory, please also consider appropriate images to go with your stories.

The editorial team recommends that stories about upcoming events be submitted at least two weeks prior to the event date. The editorial team will determine publication dates for feature stories that are not time bound.

Please note that the newsletter is on hiatus from the end of the fall semester to the start of the spring semester, and again from the end of spring semester to the start of summer classes.
