Stock 38 will present Shrek: The Musical this month.

The Kent State University at Trumbull Theatre and Summer Stock 38 will present Shrek: The Musical this month.

With showings on July 17-19 and July 24-26, the production is the story of a hulking green ogre who, after being mocked and feared his entire life by anything that crosses his path, retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation. Suddenly, a gang of homeless fairy-tale characters -- including Pinocchio, Cinderella and the Three Pigs – raid his sanctuary, saying they have been evicted by the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad. Shrek agrees to get their homes back for them, if they agree to leave his!

But when Shrek and Farquaad meet, the Lord strikes a deal of his own: He’ll give the fairy-tale characters their homes back if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona. Shrek obliges, yet finds something appealing – something strange and different – about this pretty princess. He likes her. A lot. But why does she always run off when the sun sets?

Friday and Saturday evening performances will take place at 8 p.m. on July 17, 18, 24 and 25, with Sunday matinees slated for 3 p.m. on July 19 and 26.

For additional information or to order tickets, call 330-675-8887 or email trumbullboxoffice@kent.edu.
