The Oak Ridge Boys to Perform at Kent State Tuscarawas
The Oak Ridge Boys will be at the Performing Arts Center
at Kent State University at Tuscarawas on Aug. 3.
The Oak Ridge Boys will perform their distinctive four-part harmonies at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas on Aug. 3 at 7:30 p.m. This summer concert is co-sponsored by WTUZ Radio.
Tickets, which range from $34 to $58, are now on sale. Tickets can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by phone at 330-308-6400 or online at www.tusc.kent.edu/pac.
With their legendary mix of gospel music with country, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, the Oak Ridge Boys string of hits includes “Elvira,” “Bobbie Sue,” “Dream On,” “Thank God for Kids,” “American Made, “I Guess it Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes” and many others.
This is the 30-year anniversary for “Elvira,” which became a double platinum single and reached number one on the Billboard Pop and Country radio charts. In 1982, the band received a Grammy Award for Best Vocal Performance by a Country Group or Duo for “Elvira.”
The Oak Ridge Boys has also earned one double platinum, three platinum and 12 gold albums, as well as more than a dozen national number one singles and more than 30 Top Ten hits. In addition to the Grammy, the group has received numerous honors from the Country Music Association, the Dove Awards and the Academy of Country Music among others.
Comprised of lead singer Duane Allen, bass singer Richard Sterban, tenor Joe Bonsall and baritone William Lee Golden, the Oak Ridge Boys began performing together in 1973.
“Based upon audience demand, we believe the Oak Ridge Boys will deliver an exciting, high-energy performance,” says Mike Morelli, general manager of the Performing Arts Center.

Sign Up for Summer Exploratorium 2011
Explore 15 different ways to promote critical thinking, analytical reasoning and student problem-solving at the Faculty Professional Development Center’s Summer Exploratorium 2011. See how colleagues use technology, such as collaborative work spaces, publishing, research tools and course-based technology, to support student learning and their own efficiency.
On Aug. 17-18, the Faculty Professional Development Center will have workshops, facilitated by faculty and professional support team duos, which will help you make decisions that incorporate technology to enhance your students’ learning outcomes. The workshops run one hour and 15 minutes in length.

Ventriloquist Kevin Johnson to Perform at the Performing Arts Center
Ventriloquist Kevin Johnson is known
for his 2006 appearance on NBC’s
“America’s Got Talent”.
Ventriloquist Kevin Johnson will perform at the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. His comedic performance, “Tongue-in-Check, So to Speak,” incorporates puppets Matilda, Clyde and Harley.
“This wonderful afternoon matinee will be fun for the whole family,” says Mike Morelli, general manager of the Performing Arts Center. “Kevin Johnson gives his puppets so much character that you think they are really talking. It’s an impressive and funny performance that appeals to audiences of all ages.”
The performance is co-sponsored by Allied Machine and Engineering Corporation.
Johnson is known for his 2006 appearance on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and his 2007 performance on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” He recently finished a nine-year run at LEGOLAND California Theme Park in San Diego, where he performed 8,824 shows. He is currently performing during the Summer Nights at Busch Gardens Tampa. He received the Best Male Performer Award in 2004 and 2006 from the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions.
