New Face

Job Description:
I teach undergraduate and graduate students in curriculum and instruction, and early childhood education.
Worked at KSU since:
January 2014
Employment Prior to Kent State University:
I was an elementary and middle school teacher for 10 years in Cleveland Heights and Dublin, Ohio.
Likes Most About Kent State University:
I like the commitment to diversity and the desire to work across aisles that are not crossed in many universities. Kent State creates bridges between theory and practice, between different departments and between different research approaches.
Attraction to Kent State University as an Employer:
What attracted me to Kent State was the diversity of thought in the field of education. There are a multitude of fascinating researchers looking through many different lenses at important issues. The opportunity for new theoretical connections abounds. Plus, the faculty and students rock!
Resides in:
Chagrin Falls, Ohio
Hometown:
Mayfield Heights, Ohio
Education:
B.A. in music from Marietta College; attended Harvard University for graduate work in theological studies; master’s degree in education at the Ohio State University; Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a social studies focus, Kent State University.

I love to hang out with my children (Callaghan is 4 and Emma is 1). I also like doing research on family history. I like to sing and listen to live music, as well.

Greg Evans

Custodial Supervisor
Kent Campus
University Facilities Management

Familiar Face

Job Description:
I supervise 17 buildings for custodial duties and needs. I also supervise the departmental overtime and serve as the main contact for Staples.
Worked at KSU since:
May 1994
Employment Prior to Kent State University:
I guess my first real job was in University Food Services back in 1990. I worked at Eastway. It is nothing like present day Eastway. We had ice cream, burger, fries, chicken (best on campus), subs. I ended up being a student manager.
Likes Most About Kent State University:
I like the start to every school year. It keeps me feeling young at heart … not that I’m that old yet. I watch the 18-year-olds embarking on their greatest adventure to date. It brings back so many memories.
Attraction to Kent State University as an Employer:
I had a 10-year plan. Education and out. That plan has developed into a 24-year life-choice to stay. People and students really are the attraction now. Benefits at first. It’s much more now.
Resides in:
Brimfield, Ohio
Hometown:
Sycamore Valley, Ohio … pop: 11 – 14 when we visit.
Education:
I have been a senior way too long at the university.
Hobbies:
Sports, especially Kent State Baseball -- great place to watch a game. Golf has been the frustration of all my hobbies. My son has opened me up to music. He plays in marching band, concert band and jazz band. It’s a true honor for me to watch him play.
