Familiar Face
Job Description:
I am the director of Kent State University’s new School of Digital Sciences — an interdisciplinary school at the college level. I have spent the past year working with faculty and staff from across the university to set up this new school, which started offering classes in the Fall 2011 Semester. Most of last year was spent with Destination Kent State, preparing for our opening, recruiting and designing the application process for the graduate program, and planning for 2012. We have also started to hire office staff .
Worked at KSU since:
August 1996
Employment Prior to Kent State University:
I joined the faculty of the Computer Science department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1989, and moved to the Department of Computer Science at Kent State University in 1996.
Likes Most About Kent State University:
The many great people — students, staff and faculty — from across the university. In my job as director of the School of Digital Sciences, I am constantly meeting with advisors, faculty and administrators from virtually every college in the university, and everyone is always so friendly and eager to talk about their program. It’s clear that they are proud to be part of Kent State University!
Attraction to Kent State University as an Employer:
I originally wanted to work at a large research university with a doctoral program in computer science. Ideally, I also wanted that university to be located in a small town near a large metro area, with housing in close proximity so that I could walk to work.
