Job Description:
A majority of my time is spent conducting research on the use of cutting-edge technologies to create innovative learning environments across the lifespan. My research funding has supported projects aimed at teaching health through virtual reality and 3D, using technology to improve literacy acquisition and instruction, building video games to teach science and the use of mobile applications to engage visitors to national parks. I also teach undergraduate and graduate classes on the use of technology for teaching and learning. Finally, I serve our program and our field through journal boards, editorships, and acting as a reviewer for federal grant programs and peer-reviewed articles, books and monographs.

I was a faculty member at the University of Florida. I've also been blessed to serve in visiting faculty roles at Michigan State University, the Wyzsza Szkola Pedagogiczna (Krakow, Poland) and the Università degli studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italy).
Likes Most About Kent State University:
Opportunity. There are significant opportunities to get involved at Kent State. Our school and our college are very interdisciplinary; I work with colleagues in literacy, math, science, special education, etc. However, I have also had the ability to engage with colleagues from public health, arts and sciences, digital sciences, etc. These opportunities also extend to businesses and community partners.
Attraction to Kent State University as an Employer:
In addition to the aforementioned abundant opportunities, two things attracted me to Kent State: Leadership and the Research Center for Educational Technology (RCET). I have served in positions or worked on research grants with universities across the world. I was incredibly impressed with those in leadership positions at Kent State. In addition to supporting faculty, they were forward thinking in preparing for the highs and lows that inevitably occur in academia. I also joined Kent State with the ability to support the RCET. Although RCET conducts numerous research and teaching projects, one of its most recognized features is the AT&T Classroom. RCET brings in students and teachers for two hours a day, five days a week, for six weeks at a time to engage in curriculum supported by innovative technology. In other words, joining Kent State meant the opportunity to conduct research while directly impacting practice. That occurs daily in RCET, but I have come to learn that it occurs throughout Kent State’s campus.
