HR Question of the Week

HR Question of the week

When is the deadline for using vacation beyond the accrued maximum?

Classified and unclassified employees with vacation time that has accrued beyond the maximum must use the additional time by Sept. 30. After that date, any vacation balances beyond the maximum will be forfeited.

According to the university policy regarding annual vacation leave for non-teaching classified and unclassified personnel (6-11.7), the maximum amount of vacation an employee can carry over is that which can be earned in a three-year period. An explanation of accrual rates, eligibility and usage is available at www.kent.edu/hr/benefits/leave/vacation.cfm.

You can view your leave balances in the My HR tab of FlashLine, in the Employment Details channel. Employees with more than 200 hours of accrued vacation time received an email from HR Records earlier this summer, reminding them to use any hours above the maximum by Sept. 30.

As with all vacation leave, requests must be scheduled with the approval of the immediate supervisor and properly recorded. Leave reporting should be recorded through FlashLine in the My HR tab. Unclassified employees should use Time Reporting in Banner and classified employees should request leave through Kronos. If you have questions, contact a Human Resources records representative at 330-672-2901.

If you have an HR-related question you would like to see answered in e-Inside, please send your question to hrweb@kent.edu.
