Bei Cai, School of Communication Studies, Kent State University at Stark, presented "Decoding ‘Tiger Mom’ Controversy: Situated Voices from Diverse Communities" at the National Communication Association's (NCA) 98th Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 15-18, 2012.
Norma Jones, School of Communication Studies, was on the "What Just Happened - Call and Response on the 2012 Election," panel at the National Communication Association's (NCA) 98th Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 15-18, 2012. Jones presented to the panel as well. Her presentation included the video Beyond the Daisy ad – Election 2012: Political Advertisements and the Persuadable Middle.
- Summary: A video submitted by Jones for a panel of the NCA Forum and Research Board was picked up by Firstpost, an online newsroom in India. The panel, titled, "What Just Happened - Call and Response on the 2012 Election," included the video "Beyond the Daisy ad – Election 2012: Political Advertisements and the Persuadable Middle."
Jeffrey Child, School of Communication Studies, presented "Scholar-to-Scholar (S2S) Sessions" at the National Communication Association (NCA) in Orlando, Fla., on Nov. 15-18, 2012.
- Child also played a significant service role for the NCA by organizing seven Scholar-to-Scholar (S2S) sessions on a wide range of topics across all units and interest groups of the NCA.
Dana Maurice Pugh, Department of Psychology, and Martale Davis, presented "Sing! The Use of Music as a Culturally Relevant Form of Cognitive Restructuring for African-American Women" at the 46th Annual Convention of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies in National Harbor, Md., Nov. 15-18, 2012.
Jeffrey Child, School of Communication Studies, and David Westermann, presented "Let's Be Facebook Friends: Exploring Parental Facebook Friend Requests from a Communication Privacy Management (CPM) Perspective" at the National Communication Association in Orlando, Fla., Nov. 15-18, 2012.
- The paper was recognized as a Top Four Paper for the Family Communication division.
Don Wicks, School of Library and Information Science, presented "The Role of Social Capital Theory in the Development of Effective Religious Volunteerism" at the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion in Phoenix, Ariz., Nov. 8-11, 2012.
