Professional Activities

Richard Feinberg, Ph.D., Department of Anthropology, was a discussant for a session titled “First Fieldwork,” that was organized by Laura Zimmer-Tamakoshi and William Heaney at the annual meeting of the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania in Kona, Hawaii, from Feb. 5-8, 2014.

Richard Feinberg, Ph.D., Department of Anthropology, presented “The Kon-Tiki Expedition and Pacific Anthropology” to the Center for International Education at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio, on Jan. 31, 2014.

Susan Emens, Business Management Technology, Kent State University at Trumbull, and Jacob Roope, College of Health and Human Services Vacca Office of Student Services, presented "Strengthening the Chain: Using Symbiotic Relationships to Build Better Pathways to Higher Education" at the AURCO in University of Cincinnati, Clermont in Batavia, Ohio, on April 4-5, 2014.

Patrick Coy, Ph.D., Center for Applied Conflict Management, was awarded the Magnificat Award by Marian University in Wisconsin during the university’s Commencement in May. The Magnificat Award is the highest honor offered by Marian University, and recognizes individuals who have exhibited outstanding service to their community, profession, career and/or their faith community. Coy, an alumnus of Marian University, was honored with the award for helping to build Kent State’s Center for Applied Conflict Management and for his work in the field of peace and conflict studies.

Jay D. Sloan, Department of English, Kent State University at Stark, and Andrew Rihn, presented "Beyond Productivity: Agitation as Generative Practice" at the Mid-Atlantic Writing Centers Association Conference in Salisbury, Maryland on April 5, 2014.

David Robins, School of Library and Information Science, presented "Eating Our Own Dog Food: Architecting the Kent State User Experience Design" at the World Information Architecture Day in New York City on Feb. 15, 2014.

Additional comments: In the fall of 2012, Blundell used an individual investigation opportunity presented through her Ph.D. program to work with the Ludy T Benjamin Jr. Popular Psychology magazine collection at the Center for the History of Psychology at the University of Akron to produce this article.

Victor Berardi and Greg Blundell, both from the School of Management and Information Systems, Kent State University at Stark, authored “A Learning Theory Conceptual Foundation for Using Capture Technology in Teaching,” Information Systems Education Journal, Education Special Interest Group (EDSIG) of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (Eds.), Vol. 12, Issue 2, (2014): 64-73.

Summary: Lecture capture technologies are increasingly being used by instructors, programs, and institutions to deliver online lectures and courses. This lecture capture movement is important as it increases access to education opportunities
