Cindy Kristof, head of copyright and document services, presented "ILL 101: Copyright" at the RUSA STARS Pre-Conference held at the American Library Association Midwinter Conference in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 24, 2014.
Athena Salaba, School of Library and Information Science, presented "Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) Review Group" at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) in Kent, Ohio on Dec. 16, 2013.
Additional Comments: Associate Professor Athena Salaba, Ph.D., has been elected to the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) Review Group as the only representative from a U.S. university. Members of the Review Group are elected by members of the Cataloguing Section Standing Committee. One of the major purposes of the FRBR Review Group is to consolidate the three parts of the FRBR conceptual models into one comprehensive reference model, the FRBR family of models.
Noriko Toyokawa, Ph.D., received a $5,000 scholarship from the Ohio Department of Aging’s Area Agency on Aging’s Region 10B (Portage, Wayne, Stark and Summit counties) to attend professional workshops. She is a postdoctoral research associate working in the research groups of Greg Smith, Ph.D., professor, and Kelly Cichy, Ph.D., assistant professor, of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Education, Health and Human Services. Her research interests are in improving caregiving outcomes for the elderly by enhancing the relationships of caregivers and care recipients. She came to Kent State as a result of an award to Smith in the 2012 Postdoctoral Seed Program, the first year of an annual postdoctoral grant program initiated by the Division of Research and Sponsored Programs.
Thomas Gates and Joe Clark, University Libraries, presented “New Directions in Academic Art Libraries” at the meeting of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Art Libraries Society of North America at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in November 2013.
Joe Clark, assistant professor and head of the Performing Arts Library, presented “Emerging Roles for Academic Arts Librarians” at the Association of College and Research Libraries Art Section’s Midwinter Virtual Discussion Forum in January 2014; presented “Information-Seeking Behavior of Graduate Distance Education Students” at the Midwestern Chapter of the Music Library Association in Cleveland, Ohio, in October 2013; and presented “Transforming Collections and Rethinking Acquisition Budgets” at the Joint Meeting of the Atlantic and New York State-Ontario Music Library Association Chapters in Pittsburgh, Pa., in October 2013.
