Professional Activities
Kristen Summers, Office of Global Education, and Sara Rathbun, presented “Advocating for International Awareness on Your Campus” at the NAFSA Region VI Conference in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 6 - 8, 2011.
Sara Rathbun received two grants that helped cover the cost of her attendance at the NAFSA Region VI Conference in Louisville, Ky., Nov. 6 - 8, 2011. The Student Presenter Grant helped cover travel expenses and the Newcomer Grant covered a portion of the travel expenses.
David Di Maria, International Student Recruitment, Admissions, and Advising, was the recipient of the prestigious George E. Hertich Advocacy Award at the NAFSA Region VI Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, Nov. 6-8, 2011. This award is given annually to a NAFSA member that demonstrates the values that George E. Hertrich stood for: advocacy for international education and scholarship, knowledge, exchange through technology and constructive leadership.
Victor Berardi, Management and Information Systems, Kent State University at Stark, presented, “Distance Education Challenges – Ideas Tried, Lessons Learned and Improvements to Make: A Journey in Moving a Spreadsheet-Intensive Course Online” at the 2011 Information Systems Educators Conference in Wilmington, N. C., on Nov. 4, 2011.
- Summary: Using IS to solve business problems is increasingly required of everyone, not just technical specialists. In the Ops Management course, spreadsheet decision models are built to solve all nature of concerns, compounded by taking the course online.

Greg Blundell, Management and Information Systems, Kent State University at Stark, Victor Berardi, Management and Information Systems, Kent State University at Stark, presented “Considerations for Integrating and Sustaining Experiential Learning and a Capstone Experience” at the 2011 Information Systems Educators Conference in Wilmington, N. C., on Nov. 4, 2011.
- Our research shows experiential activities can provide meaningful learning opportunities for students, can prepare them for success upon graduation and can lead to higher levels of student persistence and retention.
Marcia Zeng, School of Library and Information Science, Karen Gracy, School of Library and Information Science, have received a National Leadership Grant in the amount of $219,386 from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The funds will be used to help improve access to digital resources within and beyond the library world through what is known as “Linked Open Data (LOD),”
