Professional Activities

Marcia Zeng, School of Library and Information Science, gave lectures, presentations and a keynote on Linked Data and Relevant Resource Description Framework (RDF) vocabulary standards at several events in China in June, including the National Library of China, Shanxi Provence LIS Society Annual Conference, Northeast University School of Public Management, China Academic Forum and Advanced Digital Library Seminar 2011, Shanghai Advanced Library Technologies Forum and Wuhan University iSchool.

Meghan Harper, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, delivered opening remarks and presented “Reference Resources for Children and Teens,” at the “Summer Library Symposium hosted by the Northeast Ohio Regional Library System (NEO-RLS), in Kent, Ohio, July 2011.

Bob Batchelor, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, discussed “Cult Pop Culture: How the Fringe Became Mainstream,” as the featured speaker at the joint Midwest Popular Culture/Midwest American Culture Association Annual Conference, in Milwaukee, Wis. on Oct. 14, 2011.

Denise A. Beford, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, presented a paper "Leveraging Knowledge Organization System-Fueled Semantic Technologies to Generate Tags and Tag Clouds" at the Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries Conference (The Networked Knowledge Organization Systems Workshop) in Berlin, Germany, on Sept. 28-29, 2011.

(Former Professor Emeritus) Jeanette Reuter, Department of Psychology, is mentioned in chapter six of Enhancing Cognitive Fitness in Adults: A Guide to the use and development of Community-based Programs as the person who inspired the Keys to a Sharp Mind program at Laurel Lake Retirement community. A photo of the Giving Voice program of the Wick Poetry Center has been published in the same chapter.
