- College of Public Health Honored for Role in Fugitive Safe Surrender Kent State University’s College of Public Health was one of the partners recently honored by Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray with the Ohio Distinguished Law Enforcement Group Achievement Award for 2010. Kent State was recognized for its role in the Akron Fugitive Safe Surrender program in 2009. The award was presented Sept. 15 during the Ohio Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Conference in Columbus, Ohio.
- Posted Sep. 29, 2010 - Former Apollo Flight Controller Sy Liebergot to Visit Kent State Oct. 4 As the lead flight controller for all the Apollo space missions, Sy Liebergot was a key player in the U.S. space program. Liebergot was at the focal point of the Apollo 13 crisis and played a prominent role in bringing the crew back to Earth safely.
On Monday, Oct. 4, Kent State University will host three public events with Liebergot. He will offer insight into decision making in the U.S. space program, discuss his role in the aborted Apollo 13 moon mission and sign copies of his autobiography “Apollo EECOM: Journey of a Lifetime."

- Posted Sep. 21, 2010 - Katharine Hepburn: Dressed For Stage and Screen to Open Oct. 2 After a series of sold-out pre-opening events, the Kent State University Museum will open its highly anticipated exhibition Katharine Hepburn: Dressed for Stage and Screen on Oct. 2, 2010, making its world premiere. The new exhibit, which closes Sept. 4, 2011, showcases the screen legend's performance clothes, which include stage and film costumes spanning Katharine Hepburn's career, as well as apparel she wore for publicity purposes.
- Posted Sep. 21, 2010 - U.S. SBA Funding Supports Kent State-based Flexible Electronics Cluster Northeast Ohio’s emerging flexible electronics industry recently received a boost in the form of a $499,514 contract from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Innovative Economies initiative. The funding was awarded to NorTech, a regional nonprofit economic development organization, leading efforts to develop regional innovation clusters in Northeast Ohio. NorTech will use the funds to focus on small business growth and job creation in the region’s flexible electronics industry.

- Posted Aug. 9, 2010 - Kent State’s Esplanade Path Features New Sculpture Walk Four works of art will soon appear along Kent State University’s Esplanade, the pedestrian walkway through campus, as part of the Ohio Percent for Art Program. A 13-member committee that included staff members from Kent State’s Office of the University Architect, university employees, two members from the local art community and a regional member from the Cleveland area, along with the Ohio Arts Council, chose the artists from a pool of applicants, all of whom are artists from Ohio. The finalists were chosen after presenting their sculpture concept proposals.

Kent State President Lester A. Lefton will read a proclamation and share a few remarks about the 2010 time capsule. The university reports 13,575 students were enrolled in its two summer sessions, compared to 12,424 for summer 2009, for a net increase of 1,151 students.

For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010, private contributions to the public research institution reached $39.9 million, beating last year’s record by nearly $3 million.

- Posted Jul. 6, 2010 - Kent State’s College of Nursing Receives Scholarship Funding Kent State University’s College of Nursing has received funding to award 10 $10,000 scholarships from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) through the RWJF New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program. This is the third consecutive year that Kent State has received the RWJF scholarship assistance, bringing the total amount of funding in three years to $400,000.
