- 2010 President's Excellence Award Recipients at Kent State Announced The last week of classes in December brought good news to 11 Kent State University employees who were selected as the second group of recipients of the President’s Excellence Award.

Michael Loderstedt, MFA '85, School of Art Professor of Fine Art and Printmaking and Paul O'Keeffe, Professor of Fine Art and Sculpture, were two of twenty local artists to receive the award.

Located on the southern edge of campus, the Allerton Apartment complex was constructed in two phases, completed in 1962 and 1966.

The Golden Flashes will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face the Crimson Tide on Saturday, Sept. 3, in the season opener for both teams.
- Posted Oct. 21, 2010 - Researchers Discover New Phenomenon Involving Liquid Crystals A team of researchers at Kent State University have discovered a new version of a widely used scientific technique. The technique is electrophoresis — in which an applied electric field is used to move particles dispersed in a fluid — and the new idea is to use a liquid crystal as the carrier fluid. The result is increased versatility, which may lead to new uses in display technologies, microfluidic devices and other applications.
Oleg Lavrentovich, director of Kent State’s Liquid Crystal Institute, collaborated with Kent State graduate student Israel Lazo and Oleg Pishnyak, a former Kent State graduate student who is now a senior scientist at Kent Displays, Inc. Their findings are published in the Oct. 21 edition of Nature, an international weekly journal of science.

Kicking off the festivities again this year, the 10th Annual Bowman Cup 5k Race has been infused with several new additions reflective of past traditions.
The race, named after former Kent State President Dr. George Bowman, will be held Saturday, Oct. 9 at 8 a.m. It begins and ends at the Kent State Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC), 1550 Ted Boyd Dr., and utilizes the same course it has for the past three years, although this year marks the first time the route has been certified by the USA Track & Field organization as an official 5k distance.
