University’s partnership with designer’s foundation focuses on caring for the caregiver.
Donna Karan, one of the most famous American fashion designers, was at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, on Monday, March 5. Karan served as the keynote speaker for the Kent State College of Nursing’s annual Driving the Future conference series. This year’s conference explored an integrative approach to incorporating self-care and mindfulness in a balanced personal and professional life. Conference attendees examined the impact of mindfulness on features of health care workplace environments, attitudes of the individuals working in them, and benefits to the patients who experiences congruence of those factors.

A feverish Kent State (19-7) rally in the final nine minutes wasn't quite enough in an 80-73 loss to College of Charleston (17-11) in a Sears BracketBuster contest Saturday night at in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The Golden Flashes had their second game winning streak stopped despite using an 18-1 run that brought the margin to within two points in the final four minutes after trailing by 19 points with nine minutes to go.

As the number of Americans who are diabetic and/or severely overweight increases, the demand for podiatrists will grow substantially, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. To provide students with new career opportunities in podiatry and to ensure that Ohio’s need for podiatrists will be met in the decades to come, the Kent State University Board of Trustees established the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine (KSUCPM) on March 14. The action brings the university closer to finalizing its friendly acquisition of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM).

Dr. Todd Diacon has been selected as the new senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at Kent State University. Kent State President Lester A. Lefton introduced Diacon to the Kent State community today.

Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, activist, social critic and one of the nation’s most notable African-American leaders, was the keynote speaker at Kent State University’s 10th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Kent Student Center. The theme for this year’s event was “Empowering the Individual, Strengthening the Community,” and the celebration was free and open to the public.

Forty Ohio employers traveled to Columbus on March 28 to join representatives from Kent State University and alumni in the workforce for the university's annual Kent State Day at the Statehouse. During this daylong advocacy event with the theme "Talent Meets Jobs: A Kent State Education Aligns with Employer Need," these major Ohio employers met with 21 legislators and other state officials to express their recognition of the important role that Kent State plays in workforce development.
