Kent State Presents Lecture by Former Israeli Diplomat on Oct. 25
Posted Oct. 19, 2011Kent State University will present a talk by former Israeli diplomat Ishmael Khaldi on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. in Room 137 of Bowman Hall on the Kent campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, is presented by the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA).
Born into a poor village in northern Israel, Khaldi grew to become Israel’s first Bedouin diplomat and the highest ranking Muslim in the Israeli Foreign Service. He served in the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Israel Police and in the Israel Defense Forces. Khaldi was Deputy Consul General in San Francisco from 2006 to 2009.
Khaldi earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Haifa and a masters degree in political science and international relations from Tel Aviv University. Khaldi’s story of going from sheep herder to diplomat is recounted in his book “A Shepherd's Journey: The Story of Israel's First Bedouin Diplomat” which was published in 2010.
The event is co-sponsored by the Kent State College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Political Science, Hillel at Kent State, Undergraduate Student Government, the Jewish Studies Program and Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity.
