Interior Design Seniors Showcase Work at Cleveland Urban Design Center

Posted Mar. 14, 2011

Kent State University senior interior design students will showcase their work at the annual senior exhibition and award ceremony Friday, April 1 at the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative.

The theme of this year’s exhibition is “Polar Magnetism: where creativity meets passion.” The exhibition can be viewed from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the awards ceremony and reception beginning at 6 p.m. It will be held in the Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative at 1305 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland.

Dr. Pamela Evans, associate dean of interior design in Kent State’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design and coordinator of the fourth year interior design studios, explained that the exhibit is a display of the professional work of the students.

“The purpose of the exhibition is to provide seniors the chance to show a retrospective of their portfolio work to design professionals and to celebrate the culmination of four years of study with family and friends,” Evans said.

Not only will the exhibition include the contents of the students' professional design studio work but is inclusive of the digital, photographic and other art work from their coursework.

The award ceremony will recognize those students in the senior class who have made outstanding progress in their studies and others contributing to the program.  In addition, the third-only Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Dr. Nancy Kwallek, the Gene Edward Mikeska Endowed Chair of Interior Design at the University of Texas at Austin. Kwallek is a graduate of Kent State University.

The event is free and open to the public, but requires an RSVP by Friday, March 18 to reserve space, which can be done by e-mail at rwitsama@kent.edu or phone at 330-672-5833.
