National Test of the Emergency Alert System is Wednesday at 2 P.M.

The first-ever national test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will take place Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. During the national EAS test, anyone who is watching television (broadcast, cable and satellite) or listening to the radio will hear the same EAS tones and message.

The test is being conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), along with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the system in alerting the public. The test is expected to last about 30 seconds.

This nationwide test will not involve the activation of Kent State University’s Mass Notification System. It will only be broadcasted across television and radio channels.
