Kent State Names Interim Dean of College of Business Administration

Dr. Kathryn S. Wilson, economics professor at Kent State University, has been named interim dean of the university’s College of Business Administration. The announcement was made today by Robert G. Frank, Kent State’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.

Wilson’s appointment is effective Oct. 1 for approximately one year or until a permanent dean is in place.

As interim dean, Wilson will have responsibility for development and supervision of the program budget, recommendations regarding the appointment and retention of all staff, recommending and implementing program and course offerings, establishing course assignments and workloads, assisting in the administration of the university’s personnel and affirmative action policies and enforcing all university regulations, policies and procedures.

“We are fortunate to have the strong leadership of Dr. Wilson at this time,” Frank said. “I know that she will inspire confidence, cooperation and respect in her colleagues, and will continue the growth and excellence of the college.”

Wilson, who received her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin, has been a faculty member at Kent State since 1996. Her research focuses on issues related to poverty and inequality, with publications on social mobility, educational attainment, school funding, disability and teen pregnancy. 

Wilson has won a number of teaching awards and takes great joy in teaching economics to undergraduates and graduate students. Her previous administrative experience includes serving as interim chair of the Department of Economics during the 2007-08 academic year and interim associate dean of the college from 2008-09. Wilson resides in Kent.

In July, Robert “Yank” Heisler Jr. announced he was retiring from his position of dean of Kent State’s College of Business Administration. Heisler’s retirement is effective Oct. 1.
