University Expresses Condolences
Posted Oct. 17, 2011UPDATE (Oct. 19): Since this was posted, the university has received confirmation of the student’s identity. His name was James Barnes, 26, of Midland, Penn. He was a first semester graduate student pursuing his MBA at Kent State. Again, the university sends its condolences to the family and friends of James.
As you may know by now, a student was found dead in his room yesterday in Leebrick Hall during a wellness check. The university wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends for a life lost far too soon.
A wellness check occurs when the university receives a call from a family member of a student saying that they haven't heard from the family member/student in a while. At this time in the investigation, foul play is not suspected and it was determined that at no time were any students in danger.
An unexpected loss of life such as this can be a difficult time, even if you did not know the individual. Counseling services are available on campus for students at various locations.
