Your Teen Magazine and College of Public Health Present Teen Sexuality Panel, April 14
Posted Apr. 4, 2011Your Teen magazine presents a panel discussion called "Teen Sexuality: A Parent’s Role" featuring panelists Dr. Henry Ng, Lita Townsend and Frank Henry-Ala, and hosted by Dan Moulthrop, curator of the conversation at the Civic Commons. This free event is scheduled for Thursday, April 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Ratner School, located at 27575 Shaker Boulevard West (at Brainard Circle) in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits are available. The Parent Expo begins at 6:30 p.m. with the first 100 attendees eligible to win an iPad and other giveaways, followed by the panel discussion.
Panelists include Dr. Henry Ng, pediatrician in Adolescent Medicine at the MetroHealth System; Lita Townsend, MPH, sex health educator at Cleveland Municipal School District; and Frank Henry-Ala, a master of public health student at Kent State University’s College of Public Health.
Parents are often confused and uncomfortable about their role in their teen’s sexuality. Despite the discomfort, Townsend, supervisor of the Responsible Sexual Behavior Program of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District suggests, “Parents need to be the primary sex educators of their children. If you’re not talking to your child about sex, then someone else will.”
This panel is made possible through the support of the lead sponsor, the College of Public Health at Kent State University, along with support from other sponsors including SAY (Social Advocates for Youth), Beachwood Community PTO, Orange Schools, Ratner School and Solon Schools.
