MEDIA OPPORTUNITY: Expert on Egyptian Crisis Available for Interviews
Posted Feb. 7, 2011Recently Returned from White House, Kent State Professor Joshua Stacher Offers Expertise on Crisis in Egypt
Joshua Stacher, assistant professor of political science at Kent State University, is a sought-after expert on the Middle East. He is carefully following the current crisis in Egypt situation, and he is available for interviews to provide perspective and up-to-date information.
Last week, Stacher was invited by the White House to meet with senior members of the National Security Council for a discussion on the situation in Egypt. He has returned from Washington, D.C., and is now back in Kent, Ohio.
Stacher has provided his expert commentary to Time, Newsweek, CNN.com, Al-Jazeera English, the BBC, NPR, Canada’s CTV News Channel and CBC News Network, and many other media outlets.
Because of the Tunisian revolution, a wave of dissent is overtaking the Middle East, according to Stacher. Egypt represents the most important Arab country for American foreign interests.
Stacher specializes in authoritarian adaptation of Arab republican regimes as well as social movements. He has published on governance in Egypt and Syria as well as authoritarian elections, human rights and the Egyptian Society of Muslim Brothers.
Prior to arriving at Kent State, Stacher earned his doctorate from the University of St. Andrews’ School of International Relations and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Middle East Studies Program at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School for Citizenship.
Stacher lived abroad for nine years, mostly in Cairo but also in Damascus, Syria, and St. Andrews, Scotland. He has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and has established extensive contacts in the region. Stacher is also a media contact for the Middle East Desk website.
