African Community Theatre Presents "Wine in the Wilderness"

The African Community Theatre of Kent State University presents "Wine in the Wilderness"  by Alice Childress and directed by Dr. Fran Dorsey for its spring production. The play runs Friday, April 15, through Sunday, April 24, with 8 p.m. showings on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. matinees on Sundays. The theatre is located in Oscar Ritchie Hall at 225 Terrace Drive on the Kent Campus.
 
“Wine in the Wilderness” is set in 1960's Harlem, New York, during the aftermath of a riot.  The play explores the values and differences between so-called members of the black middle-class - an artist and his college-educated friends - and a poor black woman whom they view as being representative of the worst of black womanhood. The show is a powerful comedy-drama which illustrates how a black man learns to understand and appreciate the inner beauty, strength and courage of black womanhood. This play is for mature audiences and not recommended for children under 15 years old.
 
The play features the following performers: Aungelique Scott, Akron; Brittany Brown, Kent; Tyrone Sanders, Ravenna; Ed Hambrick, Kent; and Rakim Coleman, Akron.
