Posted July 15, 2013Kent State University at Salem was well-represented at the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technologists' annual meeting in Columbus, as several students took top honors in three separate competitions. The students graduated in May from the Associate of Applied Science degree program in radiologic technology.
Five students teamed to win first place in the Academic Quiz Bowl competition, competing against 16 teams from Ohio, Michigan and Connecticut. Members were Evan Hill (East Palestine), Nick Kinnard (Alliance), Jennifer Ludovici (Struthers), Kristen Peluso (Columbiana) and Elizabeth Sponseller (Campbell). Serving as team advisor was Jan Gibson, radiologic technology program director.
Ludovici and Sponseller also won first place in the clinical poster competition. The title of their poster was “Trident Specimen Radiology Systems for Breast Biopsies.”
Hill earned first-place honors in a mock 200-question radiologic technology certification exam, receiving the highest score out of 170 other students.
More than 500 people attended the annual meeting, which showcases the latest in technology and educational advances. Other members of the radiologic technology program responsible for the students’ success include faculty and clinical coordinators Margie Iagulli, Kelly Dragomir and Judy Miller.
Besides the radiologic technology degree program, Kent State Salem also offers a bachelor’s degree in radiologic and imaging sciences technology that includes instruction in computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, diagnostic medical sonography, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy.
