Posted Oct. 13, 2014The new Student Lounge at Kent State University at Ashtabula opened this fall. The lounge caters to student needs with an assortment of couches, chairs and study tables. The entrance to the lounge features a cell phone recharging station. The lounge is outfitted with several public computers, as well USB charging outlets for students to plug in their own laptops and tablets. In addition, the lounge has a fireplace, complete with a slate surround, for students to enjoy as the season turns colder.
The Commons received a much-needed update over the summer, and students are enjoying the redecorated space. The update included new furniture, the addition of booths and high-top tables and outlets. The new colors brighten the space and bring in natural elements from the courtyard outside.
Along with the updates to the Commons, Loretta’s, the campus dining location, received new kitchen equipment, some of which makes possible an expanded menu. Along with its regular fare, Loretta’s now offers Panini sandwiches, personal pizzas and grilled chicken.
The new Student Lounge and Commons are a part of the Foundations of Excellence: Building the Future initiative, which involves the construction of new buildings, facility upgrades and establishment of dynamic, new spaces. The goal of Foundations of Excellence is to create an outstanding academic experience for students, faculty, staff, alumni and the greater university community.
