Kent State University was a proud supporter of the Tall Ships Festival held for four days in July at the Port of Cleveland. The festival featured 13 replica historic vessels. The university sponsored the festival’s hospitality village that featured signage with Kent State’s name and logo prominently displayed.

Centuries before the Shakespearean era, drama was an important part of English popular culture. The most lavish medieval plays were produced by cities on processions of wooden wagons to promote tourism, demonstrate piety and celebrate creativity.

Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton joined Congressman Tim Ryan and officials from PARTA (Portage Area Regional Transportation Authority) and the city of Kent in welcoming Ray LaHood, secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, to Kent on July 9. LaHood’s visit included a tour of downtown Kent’s Acorn Alley and the future site of the Kent Central Gateway project, a multimodal transportation facility. Afterward, a press conference was held outside the PARTA offices where Ryan and LaHood talked about the significance of the project that will help create a vibrant downtown and unite the city and Kent State.

Kent Parks and Recreation, Portage County Parks and Kent State University are collaborating on the Crooked River Adventure Race Series, which consists of three adventure races taking place throughout Portage County this summer.
