Kent State University earned a place in the Best National Universities category in the 2011 edition of Best Colleges by U.S. News Media Group.
Kent State stormed out of the gates and raced past Murray State, 41-10, in the 2010 season lid lifter Thursday night (Sept. 2) at Dix Stadium.
It is unlikely that, 50 years from now, anyone won’t remember where the Kent State University Centennial Time Capsule was buried. That’s because more than 60 people joined in a ceremony Aug. 10 to see the capsule buried on Risman Plaza near the Kent Student Center Kiva. Using a track hoe, Kent State President Lester A. Lefton lowered the stainless steel box, which will be unsealed in 2060, six feet into a concrete vault in the ground.
A long-standing problem behind one of the world’s most popular and addicting puzzles has been solved. A team of researchers, including Dr. Morley Davidson, an associate professor of mathematical sciences at Kent State University, has unveiled new research that finds that every position of the Rubik's Cube™ can be solved in 20 moves or less.
Kent State University has appointed André Thornton as its first President’s Ambassador. Thornton is president and CEO of ASW Global, a supply chain management company based in Mogadore, Ohio. Nicknamed "Thunder" Thornton, he also is a Cleveland baseball legend who played professional baseball for 21 years.
Kent State fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2010 Golden Flashes football team – and test drive the new pregame tailgate – when the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics hosts Fan Experience Night Thursday, Aug. 19. The event is free and open to the public.
Four works of art will soon appear along Kent State University’s Esplanade, the pedestrian walkway through campus, as part of the Ohio Percent for Art Program. A 13-member committee that included staff members from Kent State’s Office of the University Architect, university employees, two members from the local art community and a regional member from the Cleveland area, along with the Ohio Arts Council, chose the artists from a pool of applicants, all of whom are artists from Ohio. The finalists were chosen after presenting their sculpture concept proposals.
As students, faculty and staff who are on campus this summer can see, changes are continuing to occur in Risman Plaza every day. The construction is part of the university’s campuswide $200 million renovation plan.
Music, dance, comedy and touring Broadway shows are highlighting the gala opening week of the Performing Arts Center at Kent State University at Tuscarawas. Beginning Saturday, Nov. 27, the Center will kick off its first season with six diverse performances.
Students at Kent State University at Stark were given an opportunity to illustrate the beauty of water and the challenges it faces as one of our planet’s natural resources through photography. The contest was coordinated by the Hoover Environmental Initiative, a collaboration between Kent State Stark and the University of Miami (Florida), designed to develop generations of scholars who understand science and are able to produce new media that is fair, highly educational and effective in triggering change on individual and social levels.
