Kent State University, the second largest public university in Ohio, today marked its continuing commitment to providing students with pathways to affordable and accessible higher education with the groundbreaking of the new Kent State University Regional Academic Center in Twinsburg, Ohio. To better serve the community with additional opportunities for growth, a new 44,000-square-foot, two-story building will be constructed in the heart of Twinsburg, accessible from I-480 off of Route 91.

From Nov. 17 through 20, Kent returns to its roots culturally and musically when the 44th Kent State Folk Festival presents four days of concerts and workshops in a celebration of traditional and contemporary folk music. The festival begins with an evening of Brazilian music and dance at The Kent Stage on Wednesday, Nov. 17, followed by hometown hero Jessica Lea Mayfield (Kent Stage, Nov. 18), singer/songwriters Shawn Colvin and Loudon Wainwright III (Kent Stage, Nov. 19), favorites Eddie From Ohio with Vienna Teng and the recent add of Secret Sisters (Kent Stage, Nov. 20). Nov. 20 event with the Cave Singers HAS BEEN CANCELED, EFFECTIVE NOV. 17. More about the artists and complete schedules will be posted at www.KentStateFolkFestival.org.

Kent State University's Golden Flashes triumphed 62-59 over Robert Morris at ESPN's third annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, Nov. 16.

Kent State held its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. on Risman Plaza. The outdoor program included a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the Army and Air Force ROTC programs, remarks from Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton and Rachel Anderson, director of the Center of Adult and Veteran Services.

At the start of October, the leaves changed, the air got crisper and the forces of technology and academics joined at Kent State University as it established its first iPhone application. This first phase of the project features Kent State news, events, university directory and map, as well as access to Kent State images and videos.

Kent State University's School of Theatre and Dance held its official grand opening of the new Roe Green Center for the School of Theatre and Dance on Saturday, Nov. 6. The new center is located at 1325 Theatre Drive in Kent.

This year, parents and families of Kent State University students are invited to take part in a day of fun and football as the university presents Parents’ and Family Day on Saturday, Nov. 6. Parents, families and students are encouraged to cheer on the Golden Flashes, who are undefeated at home (3-0), as they play against Temple University in a 2 p.m. game. 

With memories of a packed Dix Stadium and a Homecoming victory over rival Akron still fresh in everyone’s mind, the Kent State Golden Flashes returned home again Oct. 30 for Joshua Cribbs Day. That afternoon, in addition to winning against Ball State University 33-14, Kent State proudly retired the #9 jersey that Cribbs wore from 2001-04 while he was befuddling opponents on his way to rewriting the school record books. Following the halftime presentation, Cribbs made a $100,000 donation to Kent State's athletic department.

As part of Kent State University’s 2010 Homecoming festivities, the College of Education, Health, and Human Services (EHHS) honored eight distinguished alumni at its inaugural EHHS Hall of Fame Award Ceremony at the Kent Student Center Ballroom.

Kent State University now ranks the second largest public university in the state of Ohio, moving up a spot from the number three position it had previously held. Increased enrollment at Kent State’s regional campuses as well as rising enrollment of international students and students among the AALANA (African American, Latino American and Native American) population have helped propel the university to now become the second largest in Ohio.
